Over 24 million tourists visited in 2009, with Turkey becoming one of Britain's top holiday destinations

Turkish Property Market Report for 2010

Turkey has weathered the global financial crisis well and the property market looks set to recover strongly in 2010

Turkey has managed to weather the global slow-down well. Due to strict regulations, the country’s banking sector has been spared the direct effects of the credit crunch and the Turkish economy looks set to move out of recession this year.

Turkey’s warm and sunny Mediterranean climate, unspoilt scenery and low cost of living – factors that have attracted over 74,000 foreign property buyers, including more than 22,000 Brits - look set to begin drawing property buyers in ever increasing numbers again in 2010. Being outside the Eurozone, Turkish property represents excellent value for money. Improving air access from the UK is another important factor promoting the Turkish property market in 2010.

Another positive is the Turkish tourist industry, which has experienced remarkable growth, particularly when compared with other Mediterranean destinations like Spain. Over 24 million tourists visited in 2009, with a record 2.1 million British tourists holidaying in the country, making Turkey one of our top holiday destinations.

Huge investment is being channelled into the development of the country’s coastal areas. On the ground, this means new airports, roads, golf courses, marinas and hotels, which widen the country’s appeal for holidaymakers and increase demand for property.

Development has changed sleepy fishing villages like Bodrum and Fethiye into large resorts, with excellent facilities and services. But those looking for a quiet Mediterranean retreat need not be disappointed either, as a slower, more traditional way of life still exists in the smaller resorts and countryside. In fact, Turkey still has some of the most unspoilt and beautiful coastlines in the entire Mediterranean.
